Wakefield Together is the Local Strategic Partnership (LSP) for the Wakefield District. LSP's are key district-wide partnerships made up of all the key organisations delivering the many services and activities that affect the lives of people who live, work, visit and do business in the area.
Many of today’s problems cannot be dealt with by one organisation such as the Council or the Police or the Health Service working alone. Often problems are not simple and do not have one easy solution. They usually cut across the responsibilities of different organisations and it is often the case that only by those organisations working together, can they be dealt with more successfully.
The aim of the Partnership is to make sure this happens wherever possible and organisations in the District do work together effectively for the common good of everyone. To do this all the partners that make up the Partnership have agreed a single long term Strategy to improve quality of life in the District - this is the Developing Knowledge Communities Community Strategy. The Strategy is based on a 25-year vision of the future, it includes the key challenges facing the District and it is supported by a 'family' of partnerships that develop and oversee the delivery of joint plans. Delivery of the Community Strategy includes dealing with problems in the most deprived areas of the District and the Partnership has allocated over £18m Neighbourhood Renewal Funding since 2001 to meet those needs.
The Partnership is also an important means of engaging local people in dealing with the issues in the District that affect their lives and where they live. To do this the Partnership is using various engagement methods and in 2005 established Local Area Partnerships.
