There are a number of ways Citizens can get involved.
Wakefield Speaks
Wakefield Speaks provide local people with an opportunity to get involved in the work of Wakefield Together, and inform the decision making process of the Partnership in turn influencing service delivery and design.
The programme of Wakefield Speaks events is held twice a year usually in the Spring and again in the Autumn at different places across the district. The events focus on the things that people say are important, about feeling safer, building healthier communities and developing skills, enterprise and work within the district. The programme of events during 2008 are focusing on developing Healthier Communities and then in 2009 events will focus on skills, enterprise and work.
Involving people in the work of the Partnership is very important to us as key to our partnership is a focus on families and neighbourhoods. By listening and responding to the needs of local people we can deliver the services that people want, where they are most needed and in ways that will achieve greatest benefit.
Students Speaks
Students Speaks focuses on engaging young people and is part of the core programme of Wakefield Speaks engagement. In 2007 the first Student Speaks event was held at Minsthorpe Community College with young people assisting in both its design and delivery. Young people were able to work with members of Wakefield Together along with Ian Clayton the Writer and TV Presenter to discuss issues important to them and influence the work of the partnership.
The event was very successful with over 100 students attending, including some from the district's special schools. The feedback from the event can be downloaded from this page.
Students from across the district will once again be coming together and delivering a Student Speaks event in 2008.
Details of future Wakefield Speaks and Students Speak events can be found in the news section of this website.
