Vision On - building confidence in our communities
An Open Day Organised by the Wakefield District Partnership
… what's happening to improve where you live
Wakefield District Partnership hosted their first Open Day on Saturday 23 October in the Town Hall, Wakefield. The event was an opportunity for people to see and celebrate some of the community projects funded by Neighbourhood Renewal Funding through the Partnership and over 370 people attended on the day. Vision On I was an information giving day building the foundations to providing opportunities for a wider audience to get involved by finding out all about the Partnership and its activities over the last twelve months - it is hoped that many of those who attended will take up the opportunity to get involved in Vision On II which is scheduled for Spring 2005.
Over 40 exhibitors came together to share information and celebrate success and achievements through their projects. Interactive health checks, Neighbourhood Action, the 5 A Day - Healthy Eating Programme, Victim Support, Airedale Healthy Living Centre, Eastmoor Youth Project were just some of the exhibitors on the day.
Activities were both inside and outside the Town Hall and Young People's Services brought along their multi media arts studio which provided the opportunity for self expression on the day. Visitors from the Youth Parliament in Germany joined together with young people from our District and saw first hand how the mobile studio enabled the Watchdog group of young people to record their views. In addition Young People's surgeries were held with members of Council and these were recorded by Young People's Services.
In addition visitors on the day were entertained by Tall Wall Productions Roadshow - who led the Partnerships Treasure Hunt. Creche facilities with activities for the children and face painting helped to make the Partnerships first event a real family day.
It is hoped that a wide range of organisations, and people from the voluntary and community sector along with members of the business sector will come together for Vision On II in Spring 2005.
Look out for Vision On II - Spring 2005
